| Chicago indie-rockers Jumping Bomb Angel have been together since 1997, when drummer Amy Borchwald met bassist Melodie Lamkey. They hooked up with singer/guitarist Brady Carlson and released a self-titled demo the following year. They made a number of well-received live dates both in the city (at Fireside Bowl, Thurston's and Kerrigan's, among others) as well as several short tours of the midwest, gaining a reputation as a live band that played really unusual cover songs in even stranger ways (their slow, somber versions of the GNR track "Nighttrain" and the Schoolhouse Rock track "Unpack Your Adjectives" are two examples).
Soon after, JBA settled into record their first full-length CD, In the Absence of Mother's Helper. Their follow-up EP, Call It Skeptic Rock, was dark even for a band known for dark songs. Ironically enough, this record about breakups, deaths and suicides, the first copies were shipped out on September 11th, 2001.
JBA is taking a break as guitarist Carlson has moved to New England, but plans are in place to release some old recordings and to do some "long-distance recording" in 2003. For more information, visit their website: http://www.mp3.com/jumpingbombangel
