Kevin Lee's old band, Kevin Lee & Heartbeat, played live gigs with REM, Cheap Trick and the Replacements. But as bands tend to do, they broke up and Lee headed to Los Angeles. There, he played in the swanky clubs (Roxy, Club Lingerie, Whiskey, Central) and wrote and recorded with some famous studio players (engineer/producer Kent Nebergall of Rolling Stones and Prince fame), but of course, the glitz and glamour of L.A. soon wore off and he returned to Chicago.
Putting together another band, Kevin Lee and the Lonesome City Kings, he released its first recording, Restless with major label MCA. The single "Standing In the Line of Love," which was featured in the film A Dangerous Woman received some national airplay. Tom Petty and Don Henley influences can be heard in their music, and they played with such acts as Matthew Sweet, Pearl Jam, and REO Speedwagon.
Now with yet another group, and a new independent label, he has released the new Walk a Mile in My Shoes.
