Self-described as "U2 meets Bob Dylan," Michael’s three major-label releases have sold over 100,000 units. His independently released Bourbon Blue (1999) has sold 10,000 units without distribution or label support. He has had a Billboard Hot 100 hit and MTV Buzz Bin video (“A Wall I Must Climb”). Last Chance Lounge (Koch) hit the streets in October 2000 and has earned Michael the strongest reviews of his career. His recordings and performances have received critical acclaim in the national newsmedia.
He has played with the Wallflowers, the BoDeans, Sheryl Crow, Cracker, the Goo Goo Dolls, David Crosby, Luka Bloom, Chris Whitley, Old 97's, Marshall Crenshaw, Willy Porter, Joe Cocker, Cowboy Junkies, Richard Thompson, the Replacements, Bryan Adams, John Wesley Harding, Jars of Clay, Aimee Mann, Joan Baez, Seal, and many others.
The listeners of WXRT Radio Chicago voted Michael into their Top Ten for 2000 in the Best Album (Last Chance Lounge), Best Song ("Junkie Girl"), and Best Concert (his sold-out CD release party on 10/27/00 at Double Door) categories. For 2001, he was nominated for Best Song ("Unemployed") and five of his concert performances were nominated in the Best Concert category. Two of his concerts have also been nominated for Best Concert in WXRT's 2002 listener poll.
