Osee Anderson

This burly bluesman, with his Randy Newman drawl, started out on Lonnie Brook’s bill, supporting the Alligator Records stalwart on tour and in the studio in the late 80's as a lead and rhythm guitarist.

As the story goes, shortly before exiting his stint with Brooks, Anderson was given a chance to open up for Robert Cray—the young fire-blood upstaged him with “picking so fast he could thread a running sewing machine,” reports Mike Hogan of Blues News.

On his own, Anderson moved to California to train under Willie Dixon, while backing many Otis Rush touring stints on the side, as well as teaching his own workshops at both the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, and at Benson & Hedges events.

First recording rights of his own came in ’92, with his band The Hit Squad, on Old School, Nu School, showcasing a barrage of Willie Dixon-inspired tempo-heavy modern electric, topped off with his signature baritone croon.

Anderson’s latest Catching The Sunset (2002) picks up where Old School… left off, the artist’s only other album being some live sessions put to tape in ’94.
