Head of Music Staff at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Morehead is also pianist and conductor (and a founding member) of CUBE. He is also a free-lance pianist, harpsichordist, and conductor, and is the editor of revised versions of the New American Roget's College Thesaurus, the New American Websert's Handy College Dictionary, Hoyles Rules of Games, and The New International Dictionary of Music. Morehead studied at Trinity School (New York), The Baylor School (Chattanooga), Swarthmore College, Harvard University, and the New England Conservatory of Music, as well as two years in Paris and Fontainebleau with Nadia Boulanger.
While in Boston, he was Musical Director of the New England Chamber Opera Group, Musical Director of the Newton Chamber Orchestra and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, rehearsal pianist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and for seven years a member of the faculty of the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood. During his piano performance career, he has played with the Boston Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, Leonard Bernstein, and Peter Maag.
From 1981-1985, he worked regularly with Tulsa Opera in Oklahoma, and before coming to the Lyric Opera, the New York City native was Coordinator of the Orchestral Training Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, as well as the conductor of the Bach-Elgar Choral Society in Hamilton, Ontario.
He is married to composer/oboist Patricia Morehead, a fellow member of CUBE.
