Pugslee Atomz

If you've been to a hip-hop event in Chicago, chances are you've seen Pugslee Atomz. If he isn't performing, he's hosting; if he's not hosting he's promoting; if he's not promoting, he's cooling out and enjoying the vibe of the show. This guy lives music, and he's made a career off of making sure that Chicago always remains in the know when it comes to quality hip-hop.

Pugs started his career back in 93 by forming the Nacrobats crew, a collective of MCs, DJs and producers whose main purpose is to produce the illest underground hip-hop in the Midwest. Together they released an album in 2003 called All Ways, which is still thought of as one of the most underrated albums to come out of the Chi in the past decade. The formation of the Nacrobats also served as a platform for underrated artists like Psalm One, Thaione, Overflo and Offwhyte. You could say that Pugs is the people's champion when it comes to exposing the world to dope artists (check his anthem of sorts, "Man of the People") and it's that philosophy that landed him a job as the host of WHPK's CTA Radio show (88.5 FM Wednesdays from 9 p.m.-midnight). Despite his regular gig, Pugs has never remained stagnant, and he continues to push himself as an artist.

The fruits of his labor include Thanks For Not Rhyming, 24 Years Later, Playing with Matches and Conversation with a Chameleon, in addition to numerous guest appearances on others' albums. He's also opened shows for the likes of De La Soul, Common, RZA, Atmosphere and many others. Pugs is even flexing his fashion muscle by designing for the Afro Wear clothing line. This is a busy man with a genuine love for the music and artists that he surrounds himself with. He's also a heck of a nice guy. So if you see a dreadlocked brother sporting some Afro Wear gear at your next hip-hop show, don't be afraid stop by and pay your respects.
