RPM

The 1970s: you automatically think of a time when Disco was king, girls had scary big hair, guys wore leisure suits and everyone wore platform shoes - or clogs. A decade largely dismissed for its garish clothing and simplistic dance music. But if you peer beyond the veneer, you'll see what else was going on. Some of the most memorable and inspirational rock music was being made at that time. The lines between rock and jazz were blurring as accomplished musicians expanded their minds and the frontiers of their music. Think of bands like Santana, Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, King Crimson, Genesis, Traffic, Emerson Lake and Palmer, the list goes on.

This "underground" music still exerts its power on listeners today as a new generation experiences its infectious polyrhythmic groovitude and friends of that era recapture the flame that was their youth. The often majestic modality of this music can inspire and remind one that all is not lost - that there are those who care about their craft and do not cater to the lowest common denominator. The discriminating listener who likes music hot and slightly burned at the edges will love the sounds of RPM.

This is a band of seasoned musicians who were young players during the 1970s and today have brought their love of this "forgotten" jazz-rock-funk back to the front burner. With a symbiotic interplay that transcends mere cover bands, RPM breathes new life into music that inspires the soul, tickles the brain and gets the heart rate pumping. You can call them transcendentally kick-ass, you can call the music a buffet of jamilicious gumbo, you're getting close but you simply have to come out and see them for yourself to understand what you're missing. Don't wait another 30 years.
