Richard A. Vikstrom
Violinist Richard Anders Vikstrom is the son of Professor emeritus Richard E. Vikstrom, Director of Music at the University of Chicago and winner of 7 Peabody Awards for Excellence. Richard Anders' early violin studies were with George Perlman in the Fine Arts Building, and Jerry Sabransky of Chicago Symphony. A National merit winner at Lab High School, he entered Johns Hopkins University in the studio of Tchaikovsky Prize laureate Daniel Heifetz and concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Isador Saslav. Graduating with honors from the Peabody Institute, Mr. Vikstrom returned to Chicago where he joined the Civic Orchestra, and studied with Cyrus Forough & David Taylor to earn an M.M. at Roosevelt University. Mr. Vikstrom became a first violinist in the Woodstock Mozart Festival and Rockford Symphony, led the Spoleto Festival ‘dei Due Mondi’ Orchestra and played principal second violin with the Sarasota Opera in winter.

Richard Anders was later engaged full time in Sweden, and played first violin with the Royal Court Opera & Ballet Orchestra (founded 1528) in Stockholm, under Ehrling, Rostropovich, and Fedetov. As a member of the Drottningholm Theater Orchestra, Mr. Vikstrom recorded concerts and opera performances on authentic instruments with Reinhard Goebel and Nicholas McGegan.

Mr. Vikstrom then won a concertmaster position in Germany with the Meiningen State Theater & Ballet (partner-orchestra of the Berlin Philharmonic). He toured Japan and made a period instrument CD under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe (Chapelle Royale, harmonia mundi 901687). As a European resident, Mr. Vikstrom toured Europe as soloist with the Heidelberger Chamber Orchestra. Relocated in Chicago, Richard Anders Vikstrom has played first violin with Lyric Opera Orchestra and Stage Band under Sir Andrew Davis, at Chicago Opera Theater under Emanuelle Haim, and with the Indiana & Lake Forest Symphonies, Concertante di Chicago and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra.
