| Chicago-born (May 28, 1926) Horace Silver-style pianist is best known for playing with Chet Baker in 1953-4 and 1956, and Shelly Manne in 1955-66. After studying piano on the West coast as a youngster, he began working with Howard McGhee, Al Killian, Dexter Gordon, and Charlie Parker in 1947. Between then and 1953, Freeman performed with Shorty Rogers, the Lighthouse All Stars, and Art Pepper. During the late fifties, Freeman became a recording supervisor, assisted film writers Johnny Mandel and Andre Previn, and became a musical director for clubs and television. You can hear him on Trio (1953-7; Pacific Jazz), and Chet Baker's The Best of Chet Baker Sings.
