Sandalwood Sitar Music Ensemble has become a favorite sitar music group in Chicago for special events, private and public, over the past several years.
Since 2003, Sandalwood has become the in-house Friday entertainment at Khyber Pass Restaurant in Oak Park...the only venue with weekly Live Sitar Music! No cover charge.
Chicago-based founders, Clar and GiGi Monaco play a variety of traditional instruments from India, including the Sitar and Swarsangam. The ensemble line-up also includes occasional accompanists on Tabla and Tanpura. The group's repertoire consists of classical Indian ragas, original compositions and yes, a few Beatles tunes.
Sandalwood's "Norwegian Wood" version has been played many times by WXRT DJ Terri Hemmert, host of "Breakfast With The Beatles". Sandalwood has made various radio appearances from Washington State to Valparasio IN, as well as a few TV spots in addition to newspaper and magazine write-ups.
This culturally-diverse group whose members come from different parts of the globe always makes people’s heads and ears turn up.
