Saturi

Saturi is one of Chicago's newest Kirtan Bands. Kirtan is a type of music that crosses barriers, both cultural and social. Kirtan events feature call-and-response singing, with the usual distance between "band" and "audience" eliminated; everyone is invited to be part of the music. The fact that Saturi is a band makes it unique in that respect alone. Kirtan is most frequently led by a single person, who may or may not have a backing band. Saturi, by contrast, is a four-piece combo that puts the emphasis on the music, rather than spotlighting any one band member. The band is comprised of Lyndsae Rinio, Scott Schenke, Mark Lerro and Bill MacKay.

Saturi's music is a blend of a wide variety of genres - rock, jazz, folk, country, blues, world music and whatever else might creep into their collective consciousness. The band's primary goal is to use its talents to bring participants to that place where musicians go when they're playing at peak level; that feeling of being entirely in the moment and relaxed and "on." Kirtan encourages the audience to sing along and get inside the groove with the band, which makes achieving Saturi's goal much more possible than it would be in any other genre.
