This all-female Chicago trio (with the help of assorted guests, especially live) certainly displayed its influences on its sleeve. Fans and critics alike had no trouble comparing them to the Fall or to the New York "no wave" bands of the late '70s. The band, nonetheless, always sounded original and challenging. Even as their sound (and technical abilities) evolved, there was never a hint of crossover appeal in their concise fragments of melody and simple rhythms. One final album, due on Atavistic, remains unfinished. Second (and final) guitarist Kelly Kuvo now plays in Land of Lincoln (in New York) and drummer Heather Melowicz has left Lake of Dracula to pursue her studies.
