Steve Nixon was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He began his musical studies at an early age. By the time he was a teenager Steve was performing throughout the Chicagoland area. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the world famous Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While attending Berklee Steve studied piano with jazz great Laszlo Gardony and blues piano virtuoso Bruce Katz.
When he wasn’t in class Steve was found performing in some of Boston’s finer establishments. Some of which included Joe Teschi’s and the Ritz Carlton’s Back Lot Café. He also performed and recorded with a number of local artists and producers, notably John Lennon Songwriting Contest Finalist Ben Ward and Adrian Hernandez (producer from the band “Boston”).
Since moving back to Chicago Steve has rapidly made his mark on the Chicago music scene. He has been seen performing with Malaco recording artist Floyd Taylor, Lunar recording artist Blue Rage, Biscuit Miller (Lonnie Brooks Band), Neal Alger (Patricia Barber Quintet), Frieda Lee, and the funk/rock band Squai. In addition, Steve has done keyboard session work at Super Buddha Studios, Moonlight Label, RaxTrax, and Piper Toonz.
His musical influences include Bill Evans, Chuck Leavell, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles.
