“Anyone who tells you they didn’t get into rock and roll for the women is lying.” –David Crosby
The Foster-Walker Complex played their first gig at a Vagina Monologues fundraising party for Northwestern University late last year. Unfortunately, after an onstage wink was deemed a form of sexual harassment, the police arrived on the scene and guitarist Danny Leavitt was dragged off and brutally billy-clubbed beneath the light of the Illinois moon. Since that fateful night, the band has taken a different approach to rock-and-rollhood, focusing on songwriting instead of sex, lyrics instead of libido. The philosophy paid off and the boys began to earn a name for themselves in both their hometown of Evanston, Illinois and in Chicago. With countless shows on campus, monthly weekend spots at Nevin’s Live, and various appearances in Chicago clubs, FWC has taken the local music scene by storm, winning over fans wherever it plays. Combining infectious songs with a rollicking and energetic live show, FWC is becoming the band that everybody loves to love.
Simply put The Foster-Walker Complex’s music is rock evolved. It is a species all its own, yet a creature shaped by all that came before. FWC is the expertly crafted pop rock of Elvis Costello and Weezer. It is the raw energy of the Stones, the funk grooves of the Chili Peppers, the lyrical witticisms of The Barenaked Ladies and the profoundness of Paul Simon. Birthed of all these musical masters, The Foster-Walker Complex hopes to hone a sound that will echo through the chasms of time, making a place for itself in the great family tree that is rock and roll.
