| The Gyps, formerly known as the Great Plains Gypsies, began their journey in Chicago during the brutally hot summer of 1995. Originally a duet - guitar and drums - playing folk, blues, and original ballads, the band has expanded to a quintet, adding bass, vocals, and another guitar. Playing across the Midwest, the Great Plains Gypsies released four diy albums from 1997 to 2004. The Gyps have just released (2008) their "first"full length eponymously titled album under their newly truncated name. Loosely referred to as rock, the band bridges musical classifications fluently from American rock to blues, jazz, psychedelic, world music, folk and country, subject to the needs of the song. Led by the song writing of Dan Whitaker, guitarist Scott Schenke, drummer John Roche, bassist Tim Anderson, and vocalist Lyndsae Rinio have played in projects that span many genres from country to Kirtan. Ultimately the Gyps are as uncontrived, unique and hard to describe as any mature, fully-formed band ought to be. For more information, visit their website: http://thegyps.com/
