The Opus

This legendary production duo consists of Mr. Echoes (a.k.a. Fanum) and The Isle of Weight. The Opus started out as semi-successful solo artists, and found their true calling as producers, when they combined their music-making skills in 1999. It was the album Architechnology, in a collaborative effort with the Rubberoom (Meta Mo and Lumba), that took this group from local beatsmiths to hip-hop legends.

Architechnology is still regarded as a classic and has been featured on MTV’s Road Rules and the X-Games. The Opus followed this feat with a successful instrumental album, First Contact 001 (2002), released by Ozone Records, which featured underground legends Aesop Rock, Murs, I Self Divine and Slug. Their latest album, Blending Density (2007), released by Indus Records, has ranked The Opus among the best producers ever to come out of Chicago.
