| Local trio formed in 1998 by two longtime members of Shiloh, drummer Joe Kaplan and bassist/vocalist Mike O'Connell and guitarist Dan MacAdam. Recording at their semi-professional home office (Full Pull Studios), they've put out two 7" for themselves (apparently they wanted to explore more diverging musical directions than a single CD would allow). For example, Most of the Viza-Noir catalog (exploring sounds akin to Wire, MX-80, and Mission of Burma) is fast-paced stuff, but "Missed Connections" is oddly Stones-ish. "The humility of these local boys is a breath of fresh air in the midst of the great music glut," says the Chicago Reader's Spot Check. Their press release says, "Theirs is a struggle to prove that Big Dumb Rock need not be dumb, that math and dynamism can be organic and unpretentious, and that three people can make a whole lot of noise and bring it to an audience with no favors from anyone." Point well taken...
