Whata Bout Bob

"Whata 'Bout Bob?" is the latest genesis of the "Shocan Band", which many people identify us with. The group originated back in 1990 at the Eastern Illinois University with Wayne Cook on bass, Tommy Hoey on drums, and Bob Stinnett on guitar. However, the most popular and successful lineup transformed in January of 1996, when Tom's childhood friend, Al Mastro, joined up to play guitar and keyboards. Back then the band's stomping ground was Chicago's Southside, where we played Groucho's, Bohica, Jersey Joe's, and the infamous "McNally Fest" summer blowouts. In early 1999, regretfully, Bob's personal life and logistics made it impossible for him to continue playing with the band on a consistent basis. After a long layoff, summer of 2000 arose and we were asked to play the "Sanda Panda Benefit" at 115 Bourbon Street, but Bob was not available. This is when Mike Hoey stepped in and the benefit show turned out to be a hugh success. The wheels once again began turning, thus "Whata 'Bout Bob?" was born; the name being a tribute to "you know who". After a few shows, however, Mike's personal life and demanding work schedule caused him to reduce his role and eventually, he also was forced to leave the band(Whata 'Bout Bob And Mike??). Once again in January, this time of 2001, a new member climbed aboard, changing the face of the band and bringing rejuvenated energy. Steve Bunjes, a longtime friend of the band, signed on to play keyboards, percussion, and sing a song or two. The band now rededicated themselves and this fueled a new drive. In Spring of 2002, Kevin Hicks was invited to see the band and was ask to sit in. By the end of the summer, Kevin was in the band. Kevin's lead guitar rounds out the band's current lineup. The band now carries on the tradition of this solid core which came together so many years ago. The guys, with occasional appearances by Bob and Mike, will continue to perform, entertain, and create for all of those who came out to see us through the years.
