Yoome

Fans of the genre-defying MC Serengeti should prepare themselves for yet another venture: an angst-filled album about break-ups. This time around, 'Geti teams up with Tony Trimm and Renee Louise Carafice to form the group Yoome (a name adopted from Serengeti's friend's ex-girlfriend), whose sound can be best categorized as electroemo-pop with a decisive hip-hop feel. Like many of Serengeti's projects, Yoome spawned from a failed attempt to form a new voice with local Chicago musicians. The project was essentially shelved until Tony Trimm introduced a new set of beats during a recording session, and Geti quickly found the sound he was looking for. After a few more sessions, his confidence grew, and he invited Renee Louise Carafice to provide the female presence found on so many of his previous albums. With one performance already under their belt, Yoome looks to sharpen its sound with two more TBD shows before officially releasing its album, The Boredom of Me. Each member is currently busy working on other solo projects (Serengeti is slated to release 5 albums within the year), but don't lose sight of this one. (Jeff Min)
