If you're still around the 'hood and in the free-art market, head a bit east. Another famous public work of art awaits you at the Federal Center Plaza. "The Flamingo" by American sculptor Alexander Calder, was unveiled in 1974. If you ever need to play tour guide or pretentious art snob, here's your sound byte: The piece displays classic Calder characteristics; the artist was interested in enormous, heavy pieces that nonetheless displayed delicate balance reminiscent of a mobile.
