We went there for a friend's birthday - it took for ever to get any food, which turned out to be too salty, the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other & then my friend made the mistake of asking for "little plates" so we could share some of the dishes. The owner gave her some small plates, and when my friend requested that they be a bit bigger so we can share, the owner lost it: "you should have asked for bigger ones if that's what you wanted". Shocked, my friend sat down... owner came to bring some other food. when my friend told her that her response was uncalled for, the owner lost it. needless to say, the night went down the drain, words were exchanged and we will never eat there again! oh yeah & it was bloody overpriced for what it was... of course the attitude did not help.

My wife and I decided to go out for a last minute Birthday dinner, this past Tuesday, I called to make sure that they were still open, they were about to close, but upon hearing that it was my birthday were welcomed to come over. Absolutely one of the best experiences in dining we both have had in a long time... Great food and a great environment and more importantly great memories, Thank you guys very much... JDQ

I might go out of my way with a nice tip but hardly will I write home about it. However my meal and experience at caliente is worth telling. Last minute reservation for my boyfriends birthday. Called early friday and made reservation for 12 guests, couldn't get anything until 9:30pm. We arrived around 9p and our table was ready. Parents came in from Indiana and are very hard to please. Started the party with queso flamado cheese mushroom fundue, so very good, warm and earthy. Poblano stuffed with crab was fresh and the peppers perfectly roasted. Also ordered taquitos of potato and goat cheese and guacamole also excellent. It was a chilly night and the chef sent over cream corn soup for the whole table. Excellent! my entree was the skirt steak with shrimp. The steak was more than generous and the plates come stacked with mexican rice and beans, jalapenos and grilled onion. There was only one waiter and two busgirls. He was such a delight and to our surprise really gave us plently of attention. Little did we realize that he was the owner, a husband and wife team. My parents just fell in love with both of them. If you want a restaurant with alot of heart check this one out. It's family owned, not some big money corporate monster. And from the look at the dining room, customers love it. Thank you for a great evening.

This was the best Latin American food I've had in as long as I can remember. We started with a very spicy corn chowder that was excellent. The chips were freshly made and the guacamole was indescribable. I felt guilty for ordering vegetarian enchiladas and not being more adventurous but there were so many layers of flavors that it was unlike any other enchiladas I've had in the past. I highly recommend Caliente. It's BYOB, though, so bring your own beer or wine.
