GREAT FOOD! Clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Delicious honeywine. I highly recommend this place, and I have been to about 5 other Ethiopian restaurants in Chicago. Remember kitfo is tartar. They give you a lot of it too.

I am a big fan of Ethiopian food, and have tried approximately 10 restaurants, in the areas of Chicago, Detroit, Berkley, and LA. Some are better than others. Addis Abeba in Evanston has by far the freshest food with the best presentation, and the kindest wait staff I have ever encountered. We will be returning to Illinois in two weeks and will be sure to visit and get our fix, regardless how busy our plans. You don't have to know Ethiopian food to love food at Addis Abeba - It's just great food served in a comfortable environment and eaten in a potentially playful but always engaging way. Bring a date and enjoy the natural interactions this food inspires! Kids love it too. Try the Chef's choice for ample and delicious fare. They will work with you if you have specific dietary restrictions or preferences.

We had been eating at Addis Abeba for probably 15 years at their Clark Street/Chicago location until they closed, and so were thrilled to learn they had reopened in Evanston! They have the same menu and friendly wait staff -- really great food and service. I like that you can mix and match several items with the "combo" dinner -- unlike at most Ethiopian restaurants in the city. I have tried four other Ethiopian places in the city over the years, and Addis Abeba is hands down the BEST. All the ingredients are fresh and high-quality; the spices are so unusual -- each dish has a unique and intricate taste. I've eaten Ethiopian food in Africa and this is better than anything I remember there. The communal eating style is a lot of fun -- our kids love eating there (they eat the more mildly spiced items)and being a part of it all. It's also nice enough to bring a date -- and the eating style would certainly lend itself to communication. They also have a nice selection of African beers -- something else unique about the place. Overall, you can't go wrong here!
