Burt's Place is NOT good. If you want the style they are TRYING to make, go to Gulliver's, Lou Malnati's, Uno, Geno's East, etc.... Their pizza has almost NO CHEESE. Their sausage is bland, bland, bland....no fennel, or any other spice or herb for that matter. Their dough is heavily flavored with yeast, like eating a yeast cake. And, to make it worse, the ratio of dough/crust to toppings was way out of balance. If you wanted a cafeteria vending machine pizza from grade school pizza, this is your spot. Their stuff is like bad pizza from a hospital cafeteria, but burnt and worse! I had to put salt, pepper and grated cheese on this pizza (which I don't usually do) because it had no other flavor other than a YEAST filled wet dough ball. OK, now for the service. Horrible! Go ahead, try and call ahead on a Friday. The phone was busy all night. Why??? She asked me if I "pre-ordered" and I told her no because their phone had been busy all evening. It seemed that it had been off the hook. I think that they LIKE the illusion of being sought after because they really were NOT THAT busy. Sure they had business but the main reason people were waiting was of complete mismanagement. This elderly couple needs to hire at least ONE person to help them. When I get there, there are 2 people in line and 3 empty tables. Only one person was working the room, Mrs. Burt.

SKIP THIS DUMP. The pizza is way over-hyped. They are very cheap on the cheese, practically none!! And way too much dough, in my opinion, even for deep dish.
The place itself is small and smells very funky and NOT CLEAN. The service was rude, and it was obvious our waiter didn't care about us or about getting our order right.
Honestly, I can't recommend this place at all. You are much better off going to Gino's East or Giordano's if you like deep dish.

WOW!!!, This place is so nondesript that you may drive right by it. We entered to a half full room, and was asked if "we called in our order??!??" We replied no and was told the wait for our pizza would be 45 minutes to an hour. Fine. We couldn't help but notice the cluttered/kitchy ambience. The dining area was no more than 20 square feet! The pies were coming out, slowly, and by this time incoming patrons were told the wait for the pie was 1 1/2 to 2 hours! They noticed the many empty tables and were informed that those were for people who called in their orders ("that's the 8 o'clock seating!"). We did get our pizza in the prescribed 45 minute time and it was very interesting, to say the least. And good, I must admit. I would desribe the crust as a light somewhat crispy fococcia. Very airy for a pan pizza. The sauce, cheese, and toppings were very good. The pizza seemed to be best described as creamy as you chew your bite. Hard to describe. This place was also noted for its "caramelized" crust. In reality, it is burnt tomato sauce that is spilled between the crust and pizza pan. Still edible, though. So, in closing, call in your order, be prepared to wait anyway, and soak in the interesting ambience. Burt may make an appearance. He HAS to considering the kitchen has to be that size of a closet. We found out late in our visit that Burt's has very limited oven space for all the orders, thus the strange wait times. Give it a try, but you are warned! Thanks, Burt!

Definitely the best pizza in Chicago-land, in my opinion. Homemade crust, all fresh vegetables, specially made for them sausage, and the perfect balance of cheese, sauce, crust and toppings. Also, the crispy bits at the edge. Delicious. Also, doesn't get more home-y than here.

The best pizza anywhere. The place is perfect. I would give my business to Burt and his wife any day.
