I saw my first and last show at the Pearl Room last night. I'll never go back. We arrived on time and had to stand in line in freezing rain for an hour and 15 minutes. When we finally got to the door, the reason for the delay was pretty obvious; there was ONE guy frisking at the door. The other security people were standing around doing nothing. The "will call" section was just a dirty table with some little girl fumbling through lists. As a result of the delay with the line, we completely missed TWO of the four acts. 50% of the show spent waiting in line outside the building because the event was so poorly run.
Inside was decent, sound was great. It's a shame they don't know how to run a show, because it's nice and close to where I live and I would have loved to be able to go there again, but after the way this show went down, I'll never go back.
In short: Small, unknown bands you love would probably be great here. If the Pearl Room advertises a four band bill where three of the bands have released new albums in the last year, don't even bother. They had NO idea what they were doing.

Can anyone give me some basic advice on how to navigate the Pearl Room for a general admission show? What time to get there -- are there elevated seating / standing areas that offer great unobstructed views? I've never been there and I'm going down for the Nightwish show in May with two teenagers and an 11-year old. I just want to make this a good experience for them. Thanks!

The Pearl Room is an excellent venue. I have seen many shows there.
