Went to Juicy for a girls night last Thursday. What an complete dissapointment. The place was really HOT (temperature) which is not great with wine and cheese. We had terribly overpriced glasses of wine, cheese that should have been thrown in the garbage instead of on our plates, and overripe fruit as the garnish. The owner, Rod, I think his name is was the WORST part. He acted like we were his best customers when we sat there, giving us some free tastes of wine and and soon as we paid, he ignored us, even making a snide comment as we walked out of the place. If in the area, head to Matchbox instead. That's where we will be from now on.

Tubucky say... wine is good. It makes Tubucky feel all funny on the inside.

Think of this is as the second generation of Wicker Park favorite, Taste. Rodney Alex and Aracely are still here, happy to instruct and suggest in a friendly, never condecending way. The wine is still top notch, and the cheese, cured meats and olives are better than ever.

What's different is that the Juicy Wine Company is a real wine bar (with a retail market attached). Cool colors and warm wood accents make the room inviting without competing with the gorgeous edibles. Wine is arranged on the wall (and on the menu) according to intensity, so even wine novices can pick a bottle that suits them. Vino is sold by the glass (just look for the dot next to the menu listings) and by the bottle: JWC charges a flat $15 corkage fee over the retail price of the bottle, making this place one of the best values in the city.

But don't overlook the stunning cheese and meat plates: We had a lovely Spanish-themed plate that was garnished with figs, almonds and caper berries. Juicy Wine Company is audacious enough to offer a "butter and salt" flight, which consists of three incredible butters, each topped with a flavored sea salt. Utterly delicious, and the highlight of our evening.

This place has JUST opened, so expect service to be a bit casual. Everyone is well-intended and knowledgeable, though, so if you don't get what you want the first time, just ask (politely) again.
