i started going here when they opened, they have some of the best coffee in the city, but some very inconsistent service. sometimes they are amazingly nice, other times they are hardly civil. but their prices are ridiculous! it's hard to justify paying sooo much, even for drinks this good.

I can't remember the last time I had better coffee or worse service in Chicago. A couple of friends and I went to Cafeneo after dinner a few nights ago, since the Grind was too crowded. The barista who tool out order was civil, but unfriendly. The barista who made our drinks was incredibly rude to my friend, who ordered after me and asked the barista if the drink she put up on the bar after mine was hers. Rather than explain that she’d made the drinks out of order (making the third drink ordered by our party second), she was abrupt and insulting to my friend.

Once our drinks were successfully sorted out, my friends and I sat and chatted for about 45 minutes. We had arrived at around 9:00pm, and the café closes at 10:00. Instead of turning off the music or coming around to the few remaining customers to say "we're closed now, have a good night," the baristas turned on a recording of Richard Cheese's cover of "Beat It"—a choice that, at some grungy college coffee shop might have been amusing and fitting but which, at a pricey café with matching furniture, is frankly obnoxious.

Cafeneo has a lovely interior, and the quality of their espresso drinks is commensurate with the price, but that can't make up for the rudeness of the staff. When a basic latte is $4, you're not just paying for the drink, you're also paying for the service. Cafeneo isn't worth it.

I LOVE this place! My husband, young daughter and I have been going there almost on a weekly basis since we stumbled on this place a few weeks ago now. The iced capuccino is my favorite drink. The breakfast crepe is divine! And quite generous in size (my husband and I split it). The people who work there are also very friendly, especailly the gentleman who makes the crepes on the weekends and now recognizes us and greets us warmly when we walk in there. It's a great place and reasonably priced---we will continue to visit there often.
