Gatsby’s Bash On Friday April 3rd, 2009 from 7–12pm, please come support the Depot Diner at KLAS restaurant, looks like a castle, how cool is that? 5734 W. Cermak,Cicero,708-652-0795 $25 suggested donation at the door Paintings, jewelry and other items up for live auction. Klas will also feature one of their Czech beers, sales will be donated to The Depot. Their efforts in creating this special place in their community has become a regular for many. This is not a major corporation asking for a bailout, they are hard-working good folks who are running a successful business. Those businesses that contribute to the community, deserve community support. The Depot has helped create a sense culture and diversity. The Chicago and Oak Park police are some of the many diverse regulars that frequent this establishment, bringing together many people from different walks of life. This has created a feeling of harmony between the neighboring communities, which has resulted in the upstart of many new businesses. Come join the many festivities: An auction featuring paintings, jewelry, musical instruments, live music by bands and solo artists, great food, great people, and a very worthy cause. A good time will be had by all. Those unable to attend and would like to contribute, please send donation payable to “The Depot” and send to 5840 W Roosevelt Chicago, IL 60644.

The food at The Depot couldn't be better. The same goes for the service and prices. The place is a real gem. I'm there at least once a week.

Since my first meal at The Depot, several weeks ago, I haven't been able to stop dreaming about the place. The food is unbelievably fresh. Breakfast is fantastic at this local gem - from made to order omlettes and apple pancakes to freshly fried donuts with mocha sauce and whipped cream - you can't go wrong with Breakfast at The Depot. Lunch is equally satisfying with juicy cheeseburgers, BLT's and Turkey Sandwiches that'll knock your socks off. There are plenty of options for dinner as well - one of my favorite entrees is the succulent pot roast sandwich served open faced with french fries smothered in gravy. I also love the fresh, large salads available at the Depot. Prices are resonable and the owners and staff are great people. Do yourself a favor and head on over to The Depot for a comfort meal sure to satisfy your soul.

The charm of The Depot can't be denied. This mom-and-pop diner is a throw back to the roadside dinners you see in movies like Tom Hanks' "Road to Perdition."

You walk into a find the blue-plate special written on the chalkboard wall of the entrance. A few short steps later, take your pick of service at the counter or a booth. You can watch your meal being prepared in the open kitchen. The waiter greets you will a smile and "How ya doin', folks" upon entry. The menu is simple and clean. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at any time. The prices on the menu resemble those of a train or bus schedule, i.e. 6 59. The fare is good old fashioned Americana - burger, grilled cheese and ham, chicken noodle soup or soup of the day. The grilled ham and cheese came on grilled white sandwich bread with melted cheddar cheese and shaved bone-in ham. Delicioso. The soup of the day was lentil with chunks of carrots and celery. The blue plate of the day was barbequed ribs, tender and meaty with a smoky sauce that complimented, not complicated the meat.

Service was great. One waiter, one cook, two bus boys at the time we came and they moved on our food like the place was packed and they wanted to please. I've been back since my initial visit and found service was the same and the food was spot on. I'd be interested to try The Depot for breakfast. Given its current consistent service and food rating, I'm certain I'll be back.
