Chicago's parade is no good. One wouldn't know it was St Patrick's Day except for seeing people in tacky Irish "gear" as the parade is going on somewhere in the downtown area. The green river thing is compensation for how much of a non-holiday it is here. The actual parade is tacky floats etc.
Then again Chicago doesn't celebrate the actual day - the 17th. The parade should go right up Michigan Avenue on the 17th since Chicago claims to be such an Irish town.
Go to New York City to see true Irish culture; the center of Irish America. No floats are allowed and up to 2 million people line 5th Avenue on the 17th with the parade dignataries in front of St Patrick's Cathedral-the center of Irish Catholic America. A parade that goes back to the 1700s and not the 1950s in Chicago and the 1980s on the southside.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL St. Patrick's Day Parade website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
