This place is very small and it looks like the taco places in the area. Once inside you instantly know it is not Mexican by all the Peruvian symbols. I guess it is normal in many restaurants but a few years ago when I was there and opened the bathroom door I saw something move. I think they have since fixed that little problem. All and all this an OK choice for South American food, but for a larger selection and a better looking restaurant go to Rinconcito Sudamericano.

My husband and I own this restaurant. Recently several variations of the review "A Bad Taste of Peru" have been posted on multiple sites under multiple names. It appears someone has it out for us. I feel the need to address this review as it is false and I would hate for someone to take it at face value and miss a good meal. The person indicates that service is slow, but mention that there were only 2 people in the restaurant on a Saturday night. Since our Check, Please! aired last November, we have been full every weekend. They claim my waiters hide from them. They must have been crouching under the table as, had this person been in my restaurant, they would know how small it is and that there is nowhere to hide. There is no description of what they ordered. Perhaps they should review the menu on-line next time to make the review more believable. I knew the review was fake when the said they got cold food. No food is made until it is ordered. Again my restaurant is so small there is no place for a dish to "sit". It is prepared fresh, served hot, and delivered to the table within minutes of being plated. What I would encourage the reader to do is to review other reviews on the various sites. Also, consider that we did receive a wonderful review on Check, Please!, that we have been listed as one of the Chicago Readers 100 best restaurants in Chicago, and in this November issue of Chicago Magazine where they listed their 124 best dishes the Taste of Peru's Paella was listed.

    THE BAD TASTE OF PERU

I love Peruvian food, and we decided to rty this place just because we saw it in check please.... bad choice, service was very slow, many timmes waiters just simple try to hide from us (literally) and once the food arrive our complain was that this food was cold and that we wanted hot, probably was sitting out for a long time, the waiter totaly ignoring our request said that we had to place a nother order and that will take awhile. We decided to get some desserts then, well my husband got sick right after eating it, we should of known for antering this kind of gheto place.... there were not many costumers (just 2) in the restaurant for a saturday night, i will never recommend this place to anyone, we left without leaving any tips on the table, but this is not the end a big tall man (owner of the restaurant) came after us in the parking lot to make us leave the tips... he was very rude... he didn't even care abpout our complain earlier (because we saw him earlier there) and now he wanted the 2 dollars tips??? this is a bad looking for the peruvians, i know there are other restaurants that are very good, sadly this is not on of them.

Made the treck all the way up to Rogers Park from the Goldcoast to try this place. Walked inside during lunch hours to see that no one was in there. I thought, "Great. I can get prompt service". All of a sudden, I believe the owner of the restaurant came up to me and said, "We have to cook for a party of 600 people so we're closed today. I can't let anyone in." Why would you (a) close your restaurant because you have to cater; (b) I was by myself; you couldn't feed ONE person?!!; (c) what kind a business are you that has posted hours, leaves the front door unlocked so that customers can come in but then tell them you're actually closed?!!

Okay, when you see the place you begin to question if the food can really be good...because the exterior facade really makes you wonder. But step inside and it's small and cozy, and packed! The food.....mmmmmm....yeah its good and if you're lucky the owner is there and he's a riot! I completely recommend.
