Coal Fire Pizza is a welcome alternative to the gut-busting pizzas for which Chicago is known. The crust is light and airy with char that is obtained from the coal oven. This pizza trumps even the best wood burning oven pizzas that are in Chicago. It's not overloaded with cheese or sauce, so don't feel guilty about having more than one slice. The ambience is great too, very simple and welcoming. But to be honest, Coal Fire could be most unwelcoming place but I would still go there because you can't get pizza anywhere else in Chicago quite like this. Anyone who had ever been to New York can tell you that this pizza is as close as you can get to authentic New York style pizza. This is a great place and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new. I only hope that they open another restaurant because it really is becoming popular.

I think this is hand's down the best pizza in Chicago. I go here frequently and love it. The decor and service are nothing to talk about, but the pizza is absolutely delicious.

Much Ado About Nothing. After all the hype my boyfriend and I checked this out.It wasn't what we expected at all.We love thin crusts and have had pizza the world over.Even though you could pick your toppings, the list was limited. Nothing really grabbed us but we settled on the prosciutto pizza and a meat calzone. The crust was nice and thin, but burnt. The calzone was even more singed. I thought the cheese tasted off once it cooled down. I even questioned if it was mozzarella. It didnt help that I was seated over a air conditioning vent. Another thing that was off putting was the canned soft drinks. We realize its BYOB,but an investment in a soda fountain would be a nicer touch. The only good thing about the evening was there was little wait and the service was excellent. Our server was very attentive. We had to see it, but we dont think we will visit again.

Taste! There are not many places like it in Chicago. Ask them to undercook it a bit because they tend to overcook the pizza sometimes (unless you like it crispy). Otherwise, its a filling meal and a nice spacious atmosphere..plus its byob!

Terrible pizza with rude, indifferent service. Pizzas were extremely salty and overspiced. Not east coast by any stretch of the imagination...not good at all.

My husband and I found this place the first week it opened near the endy of May and we loved it! We'd eaten there several times in the next few weeks and have added it to our repetoire of places to go. On many of the other websites others have given them outstanding reviews as well.

I have tried twice to call and order in for pickup and both times the phone did not work. I either get a busy signal or endless ringing...too bad I went to your competition Oggi.

I took my brother and a couple friends to Coal fired on a Wed. around 6pm. The procedure is that the waitress gives you a menu and you walk up to the counter. You choose what you want and pay. Later the waitress brings out your food. The three pizza's that we ordered were the Margarita, a four cheese combo, and a hot/spicy sausage. The first two pizza's that came were the mararita and the four cheese combo. Both of these pizza's were a little undercooked and the centers were pretty soggy. Disappointing to say the least. The spicy sausage came just about the time that we were done with the first two and was cooked more thourghly but the center was still pretty soft. Since they were using a coal fired oven that approached temps of 800 degrees, I was hoping for a better product. Since they have just open in Mar. hopefully they will improve on the product. Coal fired is also a BYOB.
