Food was uninspired and pricey. Twenty bucks for four bland, mushroom and ginger dumplings with a smear of Schiracha. More for a tiny duck breast with Trader Joeish polenta. How a “Latin Inspired” restaurant totally screws up plantains is simply unforgivable. Drinks were weak at best. Service was unorganized and cold. Classic Southport Corridor restaurant…go for the people, don’t expect much.

my boyfriend and i ate at coobah early on a saturday night. we were the only people in the restaurant. service started out well, our appetizer was good. our drinks from the bar were absolutely terrible, i've made better sangria myself. our server made some good suggestions as to what we should order and we followed her advice. terrible experience. i had fellow students cook me better food in culinary school. i will say that portion size and price were very moderate. i just wish that the execution of the food and service would have been better. as soon as an 8 top came in, our server completely ignored us and we practically had to beg for our bill so we could get the heck outta there after sitting and waiting for 20 minutes. no joke. we will not be returning. love the concept, the the atmostphere...poor execution.

You people are insane! This is the absolute worst staff in Chicago. Although the food is for the most part outstanding, the fact that you are crammed around this tiny table on tiny old school chairs, makes for an uncomfortable visit. The music is too loud and dated. And the servers all look like they can't wait to get out of there. Don't waste your time or money.

I ate at Coobah about a month ago and sat in their outside patio area with my aunts and mom. I had my dog with my and the bus boy was so sweet and got her a big bowl of water with ice. The waiter made some wonderful suggestions and was so helpful. I loved the food and definitely will be returning. It is hard to find a place that has great food and such outstanding service- even when they are very busy.

We ate at coobah last night and it was outstanding. My girlfriend had the chicken... perfectly cooked, I tried a few bites...it melted in your mouth... juicy and delicious. I opted for the uruguay steak.... also amazing.... it was perfectly charred, juicy and very flavorful. Without a doubt, the best mojito I have ever had...muddled just enough to release very fresh mint...loved it. Great space...much thought put into the design... warm, inviting, hip, interesting. the staff was very knowledgable and friendly.... possibly the coolest bathrooms I have ever had the pleasure of relieving myself in... we loved everything about this place. Coobah is heavenly...we will be back!

As a longtime member of Chicago's upscale hospitality industry, I have been priveledged to eat and work at some of the best fine dining restaurants in this town...and I keep coming back to Coobah. I am ashamed I haven't reviewed this place earlier. Service always goes above and beyond, prices are unbeatable for the taste and presentation of the food, and the wines are a great value. Check out Wednesdays for their half price bottles of wine. Everyone I have brought here has raved and returned...from chefs, bartenders and DJs to non-industry folk. If for some reason your experience was less-than-fantastic (uhh-hmm, Jack, Jill, and Chris) GO BACK AND TRY IT AGAIN!!

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! The food is delicious and the vibe is incredible! My girlfriends and myself came early for diner and stayed late for the DJ. He spinned the best music and the entire restaurant turned into a very chill late night lounge after 11pm. We loved everything about this place... definitely check it out, you'll be glad you did!

Although the steak was a bit bland and not tender, and the silverware proved to be quite cumbersome (not balanced right at all) my overall experience at Coobah's was full of flavor and wonderful, Lots of detail was put in to make the atmosphere inviting, earthy, calm and sophisticated without being snobby, With the exception of the steak, all of the meals that I've tried, especially the Jerk Chicken Jibarito, were good. I love the appetizers, most of all the Phillipino pork tenderloin skewers w/ Jasmine rice, it has just the right amount of spice and fire. Paired with a pitcher of sangria, any of the appetizers can leave you fully sated and intoxicated on a Tuesday night. I just wish the owner would do a Coobah's II so there would be more seating and standing room at night. It gets packed. I'm always there and will continue to be.

I don't know if they still offer breakfast on both sat. & sun. but if they do, ya gotta go- order anything that says "philipines" in the description- if they only served Cuban style coffee...

Worth the wait! My date and I headed in on a Sat. Night and were amazed at the crowd... "2 hour wait" the hostest said, so we headed up to the fantastic bar. 20 minutes later we had a table and she apologized for the long wait! Everything surpassed my expectations. The wine list was fantastic and the food was even better! Try the Lamb Shank and Fundido Appitizer! AND!!! the Chocolate Cake for dessert. Will be back Again & Again!
