There was a time when Chicago was a restaurant free zone. Save for the Pump Room and Fritzel's (RIP) there weren't a lot of great restaurants. But if you go for lunch on a Saturday or Sunday you might see Jovan Trboyevic at Coq D'Or and he is the man who truly brought fine dining to Chicago: (Jovan's, Le Peroquet and Les Nomades). I love their Bookbinder's soup and classic club sandwiches, but its a great place to visit with friends while enjoying a good meal and they don't bug you to leave to make way for others. Its on the ground floor on the Walton side of the Drake Hotel.

I have been coming to Chicago on business and pleasure and the Coq d'Or continues to be my favorite bar. The combination of fabulous ambience, excellent food, great music and very personable bartenders make this a hard one to beat.
