This is hands-down the best sandwich joint in the city! Everything is fresh and they have a big selection of unique sandwiches. Home-made chili and soups, too. I love the atmosphere also.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with Melissa on this one. Obviously she hasn't tried the Mess or Italian Grinder. I'm not a vegetarian, but ordering a meatless sandwich from a deli is like getting an O'Doul's from a bar: of course you're going to be disappointed because that's NOT what they do best.
If you like a delicious, unique experience that comes between two slices of bread, Costello's is your place.

The sandwiches are mediocre at best. I live in the neighborhood and really, really want to like the sandwiches, but they are not that great. Their veggie options are not very exciting (or good). And the prices! I've never gone there and spent under $9 (plus tip). All in all, I prefer just about every other sandwich place I've ever been to over Costellos.

I agree with Jim Seaton on this one, Costello makes the best sandwich in Chicago - maybe even the whole Midwest. Better than Potbelly, Quizno's, Subway, Jimmy John's, and even the Arby's Marketfresh Sandwich (which surprisingly is pretty solid). And to top it off they have your choice of 10 sides! Friendly service, cozy dining room, and GREAT prices (you can get a sandwich, side, potato chips, and bottomless soda for under $8 - now that's a DEAL). They didn't even mind when I brought some beer in their back patio to go with my lunch. Great place to take a date, co-worker, or even an afternoon with yourself. Try the Daily Special on Mondays: Philly Chicken Grinder (best sandwich they make).
