Great band... Saw them at Navy Pier and they are one of the best roots music players around Chicago. Definitely a must see.

I saw the band this summer at Schaumburg Festival. After reading the last review from Jennifer King I wasn't expecting too much. WOW! was I suprised.. This band was so tight and played country root music like no other band in the Chicago area. The players all pros and they put on a great musical experience for the listeners. I highly recommend seeing this band. You don't have to be a country music type to enjoy this unique brand of playing. I look forward to seeing them again soon when they're in my area again.

I'VE SEEN BIG GUITARS SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS. THE GROUP HAS CHANGED BAND MEMBERS AS FREQUENTLY AS IT'S ONLY SOLID MEMBER (JOHN IVAN) CHANGES HIS SOCKS. THERE WAS A VERY SOLID LINE UP IN THE LATE 90'S WITH JOHN, RICK, AND I BELIEVE A DRUMMER NAMED MIKE AND A BASS PLAYER NAMED DON OR DOM. UNFORTUNATELY THE NEWEST LINE UP SHOULD REQUIRE CLOTHES PINS FOR YOUR NOSE PRIOR TO HEARING THEM. THE SINGER IS SO UNDYNAMIC,AND JUST STANDS IN ONE PLACE UNTIL IT'S HIS TURN TO SING. THE BASS PLAYER IS OBVISOULY AN AMATURE, THE DRUMMER LOOKS LIKE DR. WHO FROM THE PBS TV SERIES. JOHN PLAYS WAY TOO MANY INSTRUMENTALS AND HIS TIMING IS TERRIBLE. HE IS A VERY GOOD GUITARIST WHEN HE ISN'T FRONTING THE BAND. HE HAS NO BUSINESS LEADING A BAND AS HE IS UNAPPEALING AND OBNOXIOUS. I OWN TWO OF THEIR CD'S BOTH ARE REALLY GREAT, 8 BALL AND THE BEST OF BIG GUITARS. THE VOCALS AND INSTRUMENTALS ARE WONDERFUL. TOO BAD THE LINE UP IS UNPREDICTABLE, BUT HELL MAYBE IT'S DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST TIME I'VE SEEN IT AND MAYBE IT'S GOOD AGAIN, BUT I DOUBT IT.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Big Guitars from Memphis website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
