Earlier this evening, my friend and I decided to try Rustik. We often dine in the neighborhood and, despite the fact that we had heard nothing good, decided to try it if for no other reason than to appease our own curiosity. (Sometimes reviews are misleading, after all). I read the two reviews here which both claim that the restaurant features bland, over-priced food and we both FIRMLY agree. I always thought that putting salt and pepper on the table was to make diners feel more at home. At Rustik, you'll need it to add flavor to your food. The meat & cheese appetizer was OK. The scampi, as described above was painfully bland. The dessert portion was large - I suppose that's one positive thing.

    Seriously: go somewhere else.

I wasn't wowed by Rustik. I had the veggie pot pie - a lot of veggies which I appreciate, but sorta flavorless. It's pretty expensive for bad service (waited FOREVER for appetizer and food) and not so good tasting food. If you are on a quest for good food and find yourself on California Ave. near Logan, do not hesitate to try Hachi's Kitchen -- great sushi even if you do drop a few dimes to get it -- and Buona Terra -- excellent italian that serves up plenty (you will take home a doggie bag). Both have excellent atmosphere and for the money you spend you get a lot. Skip Rustik -- just not worth it.

Too expensive for mediocre food and service.

Was looking forward to a great meal, but a tab of $80 for two people who each had one entree, shared an appetizer, each had one glass of wine and one had a cocktail to start is way too much for this place. To pay this at Hachi's next door is worth it, but the shrimp sciampi with scallops for $17 was too small a portion and so-so tasting. The veggie pot pie was just OK. The hot cocktail came lukewarm and the appetizer special took forever.

And frankly, with recession looming and a neighborhood that is multiracial, what's with all the high-priced digs opening up in Logan Square? Can someone please open a reasonably priced good restaurant here!!??
