as a former employee of daves italian kitchen, ican tell the lady who wrote about how filthy this place is , your correct. the health inspectors say its the dirtiest restaurant in the city of evanston, i am quoting them. the service as she said is terribly rude, and the food is 3rd rate. there is nothing healthful about the place from top to bottom. the food is all packaged and canned.i questioned these things many times and was written off. so i left. i must say it was also a very sleezy and violent place as well. an unsafe work place. so my advice is to stay away from this phoney italian place. by the way the owner and his employees are not even italian. be advised, there is a whole slew of other irregularities going on there , i will leave that to all of your imanginations.

The last few times I've been here the floor has been so filthy that I have to wonder how bad the kitchen must be if management cares so little about its public appearance. In addition, the hostess, who has worked here forever, is increasingly surly and rude. While the rest of the waitstaff are very pleasant and the food is cheap and good, it's definitely not my first choice of dining locations -- especially with so many really good restaurants in Evanston.

Four of us were seated at the back of the restaurant. The host then seated a party of six young, highly intoxicated college students at the table next to us, and we noticed immediately that the waiter served them bottles of wine. The waiter did not ask for proof of identification/age and that he would serve a party that was already clearly drunk. One of the guys in the party began shouting at the waiter to be served, followed by loud stadium cheers, disrupting conversations at all of the surrounding tables. We asked him to lower his voice. He threw a clump of parmesan cheese, which hit our companion on the head. She confronted him immediately, but he and his party denied that anything occurred. The manager and owner did nothing. I suggested that the restaurant should stop serving alcohol to those who were yelling and throwing food

Nice calzones. Good wine specials too. A actual veg broth minestone, a rarity everywhere, unfortunately. Friendly staff in a really special restaurant.

As Emeril would say "Can you feel the love?" I get that in the food that is made fresh daily at Dave's Italian. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Italian Cousine. You get a good choice of beer and wine, and good atmosphere.
