Back in 2000 I saw Skapone and The Toasters in Chicago. While The Toasters' "New York Fever" is my favorite ska cd, and frankly more fun than the Skapone offering at that time (I can't remember the name), Skapone was orders of magnitude better as a live act. The Toasters were poorly balanced sound-wise, with not enough of a horn section (one sax does not a section make). They took to shouting more than singing, and simply weren't FUN. Skapone, by comparison, had a great trumpet/trombone duo, clearer sound, more tuneful numbers, and were a blast. HIGHLY recommended as a live act.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Skapone website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
