I am mystified at all the positive reviews I have seen for this restaurant. My husband and I (both chefs), went to this restaurant with high expectations after all the good reviews we had read. While the beef patties were flavorful, they were also very greasy, cooked in oil that was not hot enough, and therefore the patties absorbed all the grease. The only other thing we had that night that was edible was the plantains. We tried the peanut beef dish which was overcooked, viscous and flavorless, and some chicken dish, also barely edible. To top it off, the bill came to $30. There are numerous restaurants in Rogers Park, including other African Restaurants (like African Harambe), with much, much better food at a better price. We thought the couple who ran La Conarky were very personable, but that doesn't mean they are restaurateurs. We would be embarrassed to serve that food ourselves.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Le Conakry website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
