da ha ei'. Nandu, yes is an ostrich but the correct translation in guarani is "spider" as in Nanduti- "a fine web". Also, Nandu is a word from the gaucho half breed from Argintine decent who dont understand Guarani but is considered a Guarani word. For those who understand Guarani....nde ikatu ekambu che tembore...nde entendema?

This place is wonderful, i have no idea what that "kat" is talking about. geez was she expecting The Signature Room? She must've been in a hurry, argentine cuisine and atmosphere is one of relaxing, enjoying good food, great music, and good company! if you were in a rush, then i can't help ya! the chimichurri is addicting, the steaks are great, i've not tried the ribs, but the empanada's are like my grandmother used to make! Yes I am Argentine!:) if you want the flavor and style of an authentic argentine restaurant come to El Nandu. Especially when the Guitarra player is performing, really puts the whole thing together, and while there check out the folk art and some sangria!:)

the empanadas were great, the steak was delicious, but the service was the worst i've ever had. first of all, we waited forever to be seated and there were a lot of empty tables. the food runner brought the food out fast, but we were neglected by our server. no one asked us if we needed anything or if the food was o.k. the server was too busy casually yapping away with someone else that she forgot all about our check. the sad thing about it is that it wasn't busy. i will never eat here again.

maybe it was the sangria that sweetened up the night, or the classical guitarist giving a flamenco twist to contemporary rock, or the atmosphere of festivities that lasted well past midnight on thursday night, or it could have just been the empanadas that satisfied even this vegatarian's tastebuds... but all in all, i am fully looking forward to the next time i find myself at el Nandu...

p.s. did you know that Nandu means a kind of ostrich in the indigenous language of Guarani (from Paraguay)??? something to impress your waiter...

Ok, here's the story: I am argentinian and believe me, there's argentinian cuisine and then there's this. My wife is not argentinian and she can cook better ribs than these guys. Do I need to say more? Guys, keep on trying....

I don't get to eat here as often as I like but I highly recommend it. Get the steak or chicken milanesa. Actually, all the food is great. But, start with the empanadas; they are awesome. I like the sauces on the table (chimichuri?) and usually finish them all off by end of dinner. Get a half carafe of wine (that is plenty and should hold you through dinner) and go for the music. There is a classical guitarist on the weekends. The overall rating is a 8 on my 10 point scale.

This place is in my neighborhood, and we've been going there for years. The sangria is fantastic, much sweeter than you'll find at Imberico. The steaks with cheese and onions is great, I also go with the milanesa when I go.

Awesome atmosphere, the food is even better. But be warned, the chimichurri is addicting!
