I'm an ethiopian food junky and have tried them all in chicago, and many other places throughout the U.S. this is the best food bar none. If you are a vegeterian or meat eater, you will really enjoy eating here. My absolute favorite.

We had a wonderful meal at Ethiopian Diamond on July 28, 2007. Helpful and prompt service, piping hot and delicious food, and a great atmosphere with live music. I am frankly baffled by the "awful" comment from July 20 - maybe that diner hit a bad night. Our party of six all enjoyed it immensely. We will definitely return as this is some of the best Ethiopian food in Chicago.

Awful! I have been a long time customer of Addis Ababa on Clark St. just south of Addison, and their food has always been consistently excellent. However, on the recommendation of friends, I decided to give Ethiopian Diamond a try. What a disappointment. My sambosa was half cooked/half frozen. The service was friendly, but slow. I had to ask for berbere sauce 3 times. The injera was dry and too thick, and all of the food was bland and tasted like it had been frozen and then reheated. The meal cost us an outrageous $28 per person, and one of my friends got diarrhea from it. I will never stray from Addis Ababa again. No one can top it.

Great music, good food, and friendly owners / workers. It's a great neighborhood spot.

This review has nothing to do with the food. The greatest thing about Ethiopian Diamond is the fact that on most Friday nights you have the opportunity to see jazz legend Phil Cohran play. Phil has played with many greats in the Jazz world, including being a member of Sun Ra's band for a time. He is also a founding member of the Association For The Advancement Of Creative Musicians (AACM). Check it out. I highly recommend it.

Quite simply, the food at Ethiopian Diamond is alright, but the injera is horrible. I moved from Columbus, where there are wonderful Ethiopian restaurants located all over the East side. The food is uncomprable to anything that I have found in Chicago. The injera, as it is eaten with nearly everything, is the most important component of the meal. The E.D.'s injera is flat, dry and does not stand up to the food and the sauces as it should. My Ethiopian friends have taught me well, and frankly, my Ethiopian cooking is far better than what Chicago has had to offer.

Ethiopian Diamond is my favorite place to order from. I find that everytime I'm picking up an order, the gentleman at the bar is more than hospitable, and the food is outstanding! The Doro Watt is the best food I've ever eaten, and the Yemisir is delicious. I recommend it to everyone I know.

We went on a Thursday - service was not excellent. We had never had Ethiopian food before but it was excellent. The only thing to be mindful of is that the ingena (sp?) - the bread that is served with everything, and used as the eating utensil - in infused with a vinegary or tangy flavor, not sure what it is...I liked it, my fiance did not, she said it overwhelmed the taste of everything else. Otherwise, it was great! Highly recommended. We got the sampler platter for two, which ran about $32.

The food is not bad. Yeah, that's what I want to say but, at the same time I find myself questioning if I will ever go back because when comes down to it, it really was not great. Compared to what I’ve had prior it was a little bland and a little scarce. I think the only real reason that I enjoyed it at all was because mid way through the meal we asked for the fiery red sauce and went through it all. I’ll find another I believe.

My friends and I went to Ethiopian Diamond on a Saturday night, so of course, it would be busy. But it should not have taken two hours to get our table (we had a reservation), get something to drink, place our orders and finally get our food! We were there for almost three hours. It was overcrowded, the wait staff was overwhelmed and somewhat rude, and the food was mediocre, carelessly served, and not exactly plentiful.
