I found the most fun is when you attend a lecture and can go into the museum afterwards (presumably to view the exhibit re:lecture). Sue is an amazing attraction. The lecture hall (at the western entrance of the museum, open only for specific lectures) has a replica of Sue's head. I'm not a paleo, so forgive me if I get this wrong, but Sue is a tyrannosaurus, female (named for the digger who helped find her in South Dakota, USA), and enormous. Too bad when I was a kid, they just had that brontosaurus replica. Sue is the real deal.
Membership is well worth it, especially if you have kids who are discovering science -- open house where one can view the labs once a year (done in the past, at least). Each year is different. Classes, outings, and overnighters (still?) for families. Chicago entertained Princess Diana at the Field, where she danced with Phil Donahue and John Travolta and hob nobbed with Chicago notables -- Kup, Oprah probably, and Michael Jordan's mother.
