10 out of 10. Service, attentive and unobtrusive. Food, terrific with choices for vegans and vegetarians. Decent portions for price, I thought the plate was a little light but it was perfectly filling. Cewl, thoughtful, and conscientious atmosphere... they really walk their talk. Flying Saucer makes you glad that you chose to support them in this world of waste and excess.

I have always liked this place, but lately have been baffled by some of the staff's behavior. They can be rigid and un-accomodating and downright unfriendly, which serves no real purpose that I can see. I assume they want to make money and tips, and I have always been a polite customer. The food is good. I like the Flying Saucer Bowl and they have reallly good coffee. If you are having a sensitive day maybe go elsewhere, but with a little humor the staff can even seem funny and calmingly consistent with their stand-offishness.

I really want to love this place, but I'm afraid I don't. I live in the neighborhood so I could be a weekly if not daily visitor to this place, but I tell you, everything is about $2-3 overpriced, and most of it looks and tastes like stuff I could make at home. Lots of beans and rice inspired dishes for $7-9. If you go to a place like Milk & Honey, in the heart of Wicker Park no less, you'lll find similar dishes (like the salmon plate and granola bowl) for substantially less, and the quaility is much better. Also, I never feel welcome or recognized by anyone, especially the owner, whenever I'm there. I'm not sure who Flying Saucer is catering to, but it can't be the neighborhood. My theory- lower your prices+chat up the locals= more business for you, Flying Saucer!

After travelling through the US after Europe, I found the food in this restaurant to be the best I had eaten in the US so far- fresh, ungreasy, healthy, interesting, and generous servings without being ridiculously large. I was even more impressed by the note on each table regarding water - they serve water happily; but only if you ask for it. Apparently an enormous amount of water is wasted in the US each year which is automatically served to patrons who then don't drink it. So at The Flying Saucer I got great food and an education as well!

i live in the neighborhood and a friend tipped me off about the saucer.... it's my new fave... the breakfast is always fantastic, and the fried chicken is just phenomenal... the service usually ranges from decent to great--never rotten. i wish they'd throw the mamas and papas disc out the window, though... i don't know if it got stuck in the player or what, but i've heard it way too many times and it's not like i'm in there on a consistent schedule. still, great food and good service... and reasonable prices. yum!

I live down the street from here and it's my secret little spot to get all kinds of yummy breakfast and lunch. The service is always swift, the price is in my budget, the food is amazing. I'm going to go get some biscuits and gravy right now.

My friend introduced me to this spiffy joint. The decor reminds me of my great Aunt's kitchen in Ohio. Old School, very friendly service, something for everyone's palate on the menu. Try the Lemonade! It's awesome! It's like a party going on in your mouth.

I live right down the street from this joint, it used to be the home to the most unfriendly staff in the universe. Nowadays, however, they have changed their tune and I enjoy stopping in on weekends for brunch with a friend. Creative menu, pretty solid offerings. Generally, the food is pretty good.
