Just wanted to tell you about a great restaurant that my husband and I frequent. It is called Topa's Tavern & Grill and it is located in Elk Grove Village (Arlington Heights and Beisterfield Rd). Everything they serve on the menu is so fresh. We especially enjoy their fish and rack of lamb. We recently had a Pecorino cheese crusted whitefish and a grilled pork chop with peaches. Dessert was great too -- we shared grilled pineapple with coconut ice cream.
The owners are brothers and both so dedicated to making sure their customers have a great culinary experience.
Someone at Centerstage should check this restaurant out... it is a real find in the suburbs.

In July I attended the AFT Convention. Although a cab-ful of delegates made it to the Grand Lux for lunch one day, I did not. All I heard about was the wonderful food choices and beautiful views to Michigan Avenue. When I returned home to the suburbs I convinced my husband we had to spend a day seeing our magnificent city and dine at the Grand Lux Cafe. My husband ordered a wedge salad that he says matches none other, plus a burger prepared on cheesy toasted bread. The portions were huge, well prepared, and just plain delicious! This week we are coming downtown with friends to try the Segways and something new on the Grand Luxe menu!!

Our First GLC experience was 11/10/07. We were part of the Christ Temple Church group from Michigan. There were 56 people in our group. We were late for our resrvation because our train was late arriving. The staff accomodated us. The service was great! and the food was magnificent! The serve staff could not have been more patient! We had been provided menus to review prior to arriving at the resturant, unfortunately some of our group did not use that opportunity wisely. The waitresses were patient, and never showed any sign of agitation with the many changes and additions that were made to several orders. My husband and I were very pleased and would definitely come again! The atmosphere was very relaxing. Our best to the Chef! I'm trying to find a receipe for asparagas soup :) A bow to your staff! Great job! The AMTRAK car smelled like cookies on the ride back to Muskegon!

I am headed to Chicago with my daughter and a few of our friends and I can't wait to take them to the GLC! We frequent Chicago often and have never missed an opportunity to dine with you.

I took a gathering of family members there for a special dinner and had one of the worst, most disappointing evenings possible. From the indifferent host staff to the totally incompetent and too-few waiters to the raw chicken in my friend's salad with no comp, the place is a disaster. Stay away.

First off I am an employee of the Grand Lux and I wanted to reply to Joy's message above mine because she has alot of misconceptions about The GLC Chicago and restaurants in general. First of all, every 15-30 minutes is pretty standard for a server to ask how you are doing. If you were in a hurry and they didn't come over for an hour you would be pretty upset. Second, they didn't bring you to go containers as it is policy to box it for you. If you were treating friends I am glad you took them to such a great restaurant but go to a lounge or a bar when your done with your meal. Restaurants make money by turning tables and you taking 3 hours to leave is rude on your part not theirs. A $30 tip for 5 adults is quite common, it's called gratuity and the only reason it exists is because people like yourself complain and don't tip for non-existent reasons. You trying to justify bad service by saying the employees of glc are in dire need of tips is stupid, it's the 4th busiest restaurant in America, I think they are doing alright. I truly believe you just like to complain for no reason and try to get a free meal out of an incredible restaurant. I really hope that you never come back as you don't deserve to eat in our restaurant. As for everyone else, your comments are truly appreciated. Alot of people work very hard to bring you The Grand Lux Cafe Chicago and it's nice to see that most of our guests enjoy their experience with us.

I have eaten at the Grand Lux every time that I have been to Chicago--probably about five times now. My first visit was during the week it opened up! Since that first encounter, which was a happy discovery, I cannot go to Chicago without a visit to the Grand Lux. I love this place and wish to share it with anyone and everyone! The best part of all??? Taking a box of hot chocolate chip cookies home!! The food is excellent, the service wonderful, and the atmosphere--you're in Chicago folks on Michigan Avenue. Need I say any more???!!!

You'll wait, but it's worth it! Excellent service, menu, food quality and atmosphere. I don't live in the Chicago area, but try to get there every time I'm in town!

Food is great but service is very poor. They keep on coming to our table every 15-30 mins. asking us if we are done we are food. We felt they want us out of the restaurant right away. They even bring the "to-go" containers even if we said that we are not yet done. I find that very rude. My husband can't stand the treatment so he ask if there is a problem us staying in the restaurant. These are our friends we are treating and we haven't seen them for 20 years so the conversation is on-going. We just want to ask them to leave us alone and don't keep on asking us if we are done with our food. I'm not sure if they are concern with the tip or available area. They even charged us with $30 tip for 5 adults. But since they are so "cheap" with their service they are probably in dire need of tips so we did not question them at all. The place is great with all the decorations that is why initially we are proud of the restaurant but after experiencing that kind of service we are definitely not coming back to the restaurant. If food is good, service should be good as well because all the backdrop will be useless.
