second city mainstage review: War what war? july 06 war in it's fourth...war what war?
to her credit ruby streak has written music and the cast dances for the first time in years on the mainstage bravo ruby ... except a song parody to a beatles tune hmmm... oops too bad the songs came out awkward. the non rythmic cast stumbles through clunky lyrics with no laughs.
the "in the shower" (short silent scene) is the best classic comic moment, next to brown and white (ventriliquist),both played aptly by ithamar.
a preachier show i have never seen. i felt sick throughout.
brian galavan, who had a great first show at sc, dissapointed me the most with his brainless, half characters.
oprah song is a nice showcase for claudia, but it's a silly premise dragged out too far.
the improvisation is lacking in any courage, the easiest of all scenes to improvise is a two person, which galavan and monroe chuckled at themselves through.
and the audience interview/song sucked... in it's lack of form originality and execution...zonk!
a wise writer taught me years ago never to soap box...or point fingers...and to provide both sides of arguments...we know whats good and bad, don't insult us, please.
"jesus hates faggots" is a funny line, but highly improbable and way too cheap of a laugh at the expense all the quiet faithful.
the characters that drive the satire in this show insult us (playing way beneath their own intellengence)
