I have yet to actually go to this restaurant, but I just want to say that it looks like a fun and eclectic place to eat.
Where did I hear or see this restaurant? From the window of the Blue Line train! Of all the things and places that cross my plane of sight on a daily basis, this place caught my eye. It's not flashy, it's not super classy. It just looked like a fun place, full of people, with a nice outdoor patio.
After reading all these reviews, I can't wait to try this place out for the food as well. :)

I went here for the first time last night and I have to say it was AWESOME! Our waiter Mark was outstanding and makes you want to go back. The food was authentic and perfect. GREAT PLACE!!

I have been to Costa Rica many times and this is as good as home cooking in Costa Rica. Food is awesome and the service is good. On a summer day you would think you are in a Costa Rician restaurant. Try the plantains and a oatmeal shake.

Take it from a Costa Rican native! I came to the USA in 1988 and some of the things I miss the most is the great CR food, so when a friend invited me to eat at Irazu I was fascinated... only to find that the cooks were more Mexican than "Ticos", there are just a few items in the menu that are(a want- to- be authentic-version)of Costa Rican food and of very poor quality, not impress with the service either, I was expecting the "friendly ticos" to come to my table for the real CR experience! THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MISREPRESENTATION OF THE FABULOUS COUNTRY,PEOPLE AND FOOD OF COSTA RICA! I feel sorry for all these people "gringos" who think that is the real deal of Costa Rica's food! I will try the new Palmito soon and hope to find a little corner of Costa Rica in Chicago! To the owners, take this not as a derrogatory but as a constructive comment.

I have been going to El Irazu since 1997 and have enjoyed my lunch or dinner every time. Service is great and friendly. Dine-in area is small but cozy and welcoming. I definately recommend it. I enjoy the Mango shake, Yuca frita w/ajo, and the steak casado with gallo pinto!!!

The food at Irazu was great. I had the steak dinner and loved it. Also, had the ceviche, which was also great. It's small but comfortable. The waitress wasn't speedy but the food came out in a matter of 10 mins...so no compliants here. I would def. go back.

This place is awesome. This is the first place I take anyone when they come and visit. It's a short walk for me, and well worth the trip. The food is so unique, and the oatmeal shakes are unbelievable. My favorite is the Milanesa sandwich. But just about everything on the menu is great.
It doesn get crowded on weekend nights, but what good restaurant in this city doesn't? There's a reason it's crowded (other than being small). It's because people love the food!

Good Food, however the service can be very poor sometimes. Irazu's strength is the uniqueness of their food, good service (especially dine in) is not. I have attempted to dine in there on crowded nights (it doesn't help that it's a very small place as well) and not only is it hard to get a table, it can be hard to get a hostess/cashier or whoever is doing the seating that night to talk to you. Go there for lunch, on a quiet night, or get take out, it IS good food and they have some interesting dishes. Don't EVER try going there on a Crowded night though...

REALLY BAD! This place has lost it's great taste The service has become rude and the food no longer arrives hot or even warm. So Sad. Please get it together or at least be nicer to your guests,
