I have vivid and happy memories of the J. Toguri Mercantile store, which used to have all kinds of Japanese and Chinese goods, not just books. As a child I was taken by my sister to J. Toguri Mercantile a couple times and was enchanted with it - it had a great magical smell of incense, steel, everything unfamiliar and interesting. My sister bought for me two Japanese dolls that turned me into a crafts builder for life. They became the little friends I built a dollhouse, furniture, and many objects and clothes for. That childhood memory is one of my happiest. I grew up to work in theater as a craftsmaster.
I am so amazed that Ms. Toguri was THE Toguri in the news. Imagine that. All I can say is, Wow, and Sorry, and Thank you for everything. You never know what good you do.

Interesting history to the lady who owns and runs this little store. She is actually Iva Toguri, who was convicted of treason after WWII as "Tokyo Rose." She was pardoned in 1977. Interesting lady and a part of living American history! She's tiny, probably about 4'10," and is usually behind the counter ringing people up. Check it out!
