I, along with 11 other family members patroned this establishment on July 18, 2008 to celebrate my Mother's birthday. The waitress was so stressed out (obvious by her body language); the food was luke warm, the coffee cold, the water warm (no ice), and the challenged we faced trying to get the waitress' attention was like no other experience! She did not refill our beverages, unless we asked; she did not once ask how the service was (she probably already knew), and when I questioned why my order had food missing, she said that's how it came (on the menu there were 3 items listed that was not on my plate). I will never recommend or go back to this place! The worst part was leaving the mandatory $42 tip!

Went here after a movie with some friends. We wanted some nice big steaks for a man's night out. The place was empty (3 tables full) yet we had to wait over half an hour to get seated. It was loud, but not excessively like some have said. The waiter had to take care of 2 other tables, yet only came over to us twice in the hour and a half we were there. He never refilled the water and when you'd ask for more, it took half an hour to get it (timed not estimated). When you would try to flag him down, he would turn his back to you and completely ignore you. Terrible.

The food itself came in a reasonable amount of time. The empenadas were pretty good and quite big. The steak itself was about 8oz and not as flavorful as I'd like it. The sides were practically non-existent. good thing we ordered appetizers or we would have left hungry.

All and all I'd have to say this place is not worth the price of admission. If management did something about the wait staff it would almost be worth a trip.

We moved to Chicago from New York and I was craving some empanadas but I was disappointed to find that they were hard as a rock and not filled with meat and potatoes but with rice, meat and egg! The aji was so liquidy and not even spicy. We ordered the bandeja paisa and sobrebarriga en salsa which was good but both meals were on the salty side like someone else mentioned. I felt like I wasn't even eating at a nice restaurant since the silverware I was using was sooo cheap, the fork was bending and so flimsy. They should definately afford better silverware for what they are charging for food! Overall the experience was good but I would not go back for seconds.

For a place that calls itself a Columbian steakhouse, the steak dishes were actually very poor. The Churrasco (supposedly the house specialty) tasted and had the texture of a low grade breakfast steak. It is supposedly a NY strip steak that is butter-flied, but comes off as thin (1/4 inch thick?) and fatty, and has a peculiar “bad meat” taste. On the plus side though, the shrimp was incredible; the size, marinade, and grilled taste made these perhaps the best shrimp I have ever tasted. The chicken was also quite good, with a great marinade and grilled flavor. Our server was pleasant and accommodating when we sent our 1st steak back because it was well done (we ordered it medium rare). The prices were a bit high for what you got; Churrasco was $17 and the chicken and shrimp combo was $18. Overall, I would go back here but definitely not for the steak dishes.

Las Tablas is certainly ethnic. It is a bit salty for my taste. The carmel and raspberry dessert made the trip to Lincoln Park worthwhile. I would recommend it if you are into South American cusine.

I've been going here since about 1996. I LOVE IT! I was brought here and have been bringing friends who bring their friends and so on and so on. And every time I go there I ALWAYS get the same dish...I haven't even tried anything else cuz I love the one dish sooo much!

This place is not much to look at, but the food here is excellent. I guess my only other complaint would be that they do not take reservations for large or small groups so the wait can be VERY long if you have a big group.

That being said the food is excellent and the BYOB makes this place very affordable. The empanadas with the green table salsa are incredible. The chicken is terrific, the steak is terrific, and so is the shrimp.

For the price range and the type of food, Las Tablas is defintiely one of my favorites. This review is for the one on Lincoln. I hear the one on Irving Park is much nicer inside.

Amazing! I was born in Colombia and came to the U.S. as a child. I haven't had such good Colombian food since I was little (my mother doesn't cook it much anymore). My aunt is coming this summer from Bogota and Las Tablas is definitely a place we plan to visit!

We try to get to Las Tablas every few months....the food is that good - and the BYOB policy lets you enjoy a bottle (or two) of wine without the typical restaurant overcharge.

But...back to the food...we have tried almost everything on the menu and it is ALL GOOD. Just pick what you like - steak, shrimp, chicken.... it is all perpared so well and is SO good.

Unfortunately, you can expect a wait on most weekend evening, but it is worth it.

    Go...and enjoy.
