I have shopped at Lauries for over 4 years. Last week, I wanted to purchase a book costing $8.99 (approx. $9.80 w/tax) and was told that I needed a $10.00 minimum to process my Visa debit card. The man at the counter actually made mention that I was only short $.20 while refusing my sale!?!??!!! This was enough to make me decide not to purchase the book and although my boyfriend insisted on buying it, I will never patronize this store ever again.

My uncle is John Laurie who founded the store so i herd about it through him. He's an awesome guy and its to bad we dont have more awesome record stores like his all over the place. I can always get a CD that i cnt find anywere else on the planet. If u have any love for music U should check it out.

john is actually my uncle's brother. so we heard about his store from him, and then i went up there, and bought a whole bunch of cds and buttons and stuff like that... i was just up there monday and bought 6 cds... many you cant find at a lot of places. it is definitely a super store for buying rare cds and vinyl. plus best buy sucks real bad... and all those places like that.

i've been going to laurie's for a couple years now. they have great selection, good prices, and i can always find something to take home (sometimes several things); however, i have to agree they are fairly smug. it doesn't usually effect my shopping experience, but i admit, i don't like to ask them questions. when i have, i've found they they don't give a friendly vibe. i try to ignore this because i'd rather support the local businesses, instead of Amazon.

Beware! Laurie's has a no return policy on their records. While that's fine for used Vinyl, new records (shrink wrapped) that are defective or damaged can not be returned. So if you buy that expensive import and it doesn't play...that's your fucking problem. I'm all for local business, but in this case, I'd say protect yourself and deal with someone else.

Smug staff? Oh well, don't believe everything you read.

I have been going to Laurie's for years. They used to be right north of the curve on Lincoln Ave., but now they are in larger digs to the south. Great indie record store.

Also- and this is important, folks- Laurie's can get you any record you want, at about the same price or even lower than Amazon and quicker too! That's because you don't have to pay for UPS to deliver it to your house. Just because they're an indie place doesn't mean you can't get your polka stuff, your classical, your Elvis Presley, your Britney Spears, your what-have-you. They've always been quite eager to find and procure any wacky CD I've wanted. I will never go to Amazon and get my CD's again; a phone call to Laurie's is just as convenient, it's cheaper, it's quicker, and I feel good about supporting a local joint.

I have nothing to do with Laurie's except as a satisfied customer. As a matter of fact, I haven't been there in some months. I was searching online for Darkstar Video's phone number and stumbled in here. So there. :) -Mike
