I don't know what Michael below is talking about, this place is great! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and I don't think they are stingy at all. The beer selection is wonderful and is priced lower than a lot of other craft places.

This restaurant is overpriced and over rated. It used to better but the owner Charlie Orr is getting old and not keeping up the quality. Also with his liberal opions about most things he is very conservative in running his business. Like a George Bush tyrant. He never gives you a drink on the house and measures every glass of wine so don't expect anything extra. You are charged for any special request. And the hours are so inconsistent that if you are hungry at 9pm forget it. Air conditioning is terrible again because the owner refuses to create a comfortable atmosphere for the customer. Many other restaurants to chose from instead of Maple Tree

Maple Tree has been a favorite of mine for years.I especially enjoy the Gumbo as well as the Hickory buttered ribs, and wash it down with a Hurricane. The atmosphere reminds me of New Orleans restaraunts, especially eating on the porch in the summer. I highly recommend this restarunt.

The beer selection is impressive, the bar is beautiful, and the food is flavorful. However, the portions are STINGY. Don't go hungry.

Much better food AND atmostphere than Seven on Heaven. Menu changes seasonally. Great unusual rums and interesting wine list in addition to the masses of beers on tap. Charlie, the owner, has recently gone entirely non-smoking inside (there is covered outdoor seating when weather permits where one can smoke), making the experience even more pleasurable. A great place for celebrations and special occasions. Get there early, especially on weekends, as it fills up fast.

I first saw MTI on check please and saw how good everything looked, so I tried it and have been back with friends many times. The bbq shrimp with grits is awesome as well as the soft shell crab. You also can't beat the oyster shooters.

Excellent food, and atmosphere. The drive isnt even an issue, I come in from the Western Burbs, and do it gladly for this place. It is the best Cajun food in the city, those who mention Heaven on Seven dont know Cajun. I have tried the Door Stop Pork Chop, Crab AuGratin, Gumbo, New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, and have loved each. The Gumbo is the best in the city. Get in as close to 5 as possible, this place fills up. One complaint, they rarely have all the beers in stock, and it is a struggle to find a suitible beer. Get a domestic on tap, some regualr guys like myself dont go for the fancy beers.

My god. The charming bartender will let you sample any of the 30 beers on tap while you eat your way through the fantastic appetizers. If you leave without eating some of the gumbo, you might as well turn around and walk right back in. Southside Chicago's anwer to Heaven on Seven.

A haven for southside beer lovers! Appetizers? A couple of oyster shooters and some alligator soup. The lamb shanks are unbelieveably succulent and tasty. That and the door stop pork chop are worth damaging my cholesterol level. The catfish pecandine is a must. I.e., the whole menu is worth the effort of getting to the Tree. I know. I've had them all.
