The spicy mono roll is pretty much the best sushi roll I've ever had. You may recognize this entre from Japonais, Mirai's sister restaurant. Aside from that, the sushi is superb and I strongly recommend the tuna tuna salmon as well as the kobe beef roll. Oh, and definitely kick things off with the yuki toro, but they run out of those so make sure to get that order in quickly. I've lived in Chicago and on the West Coast and this is the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to. Mirai gets my emphatic recommendation and two thumbs up.

Food was terrific & tasty, and I don't usually eat sushi. But I odered shrimp, & they served it with shell on - they suggested I could eat the shells. Did try, but wound up with a mouthful of, well, inedible shells. But the reason I'll never return is the brain-trauma-inducing noise level. High school cafeterias are zen meditation rooms in contrast. Couldn't wait to leave & get some aspirin for my splitting headache.

Wow! The negative folks on this list.... well.... I just have to say.... they must not get out much. Mirai is the abxolute best I have ever had, and I'm a sushi freak! :) The food was amazing. You could simply go in and trust your server to order some things for you. I'm sure you would love everything ordered! The service was outstanding. We never had to wait. We were given good suggestions. With ten people eating sushi timing can be an issue... but it was not. I was stuffed on $50.00 which I think is pretty cheap for sushi.... or for any nice restaraunt. Thank you to all of the staff and the cheff of Mirai! I'll be back when I come back to Chicago.

ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT, SUSHI...IT MAY TAKE $100 PER PERSON TO FILL YOU UP, AND YOU JUST MAY AWAKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH FOOD POSIONING!!! BUT THE ATMOSPHERE IS SWANK AND THE SERVICE IS GREAT. I SUGGEST GOING THERE, JUST DON'T EAT THE SUSHI!!

I went to Mirai with my boyfriend before he left for Europe for the year, and I have to say the staff did a wonderful job of making the evening absolutley memorable. if you go= opt for the lounge upstairs.. it may be full of drunk 30-somethings, but the vibe set off around the L shaped bar and the hip house music makes for a great evening with a date.

food? SIMPLY AMAZING. i agree with the person praising the salmon salmon something rolls.. there is so much to try on the menu, and absolutley everything is delicious and fresh. The sake selection is also superb- they serve it to you in very unique containers which in all add to the very unique ambience of the restuarant. 15 out of 10 stars!!!

Please disregard Gina Nicoles review. I have lived in Japan for 4 years and my wife happens to be Japanese. I have tried so many sushi restaraunts in the states, and I have finally found one that is actually authentic.

Anytime you want something authentic you are going to pay for it! This place is not CHEAP. If you are a CHEAP person, then I suggest you go to your Korean or Filipino ran sushi bar down the street.

I talked with the owner that same night Gina was there, and found out that the Chef and Co-owner is Japanese. This is not surprising!

The atmosphere is amazing. Downstairs is a very nice and cozy formal setting, while upstairs is where the fun is at. Beautiful decor, and a bar stocked with authentic Sake from all over.

When I go out to a nice place, I don't mind spending the money. ESPECIALLY when all of my expectations are met. There simply is nothing else close to Mirai in the Chicagoland area.

You arent going to have your exotic dragon rolls, because in Japan they really don't exist. Mirai is authentic, and their flavors and presentation are well worth the money.

Are Bill was over 200 dollars between 4 people, which to me is NOTHING, for good sushi.

If you can't afford to go to a classy restaruant, then just don't go. I know this girl by the way, so take it from me.... Mirai is where it's at.

I just counld't pass Gina's comment about this sushi place. They are the BEST in Chicago!! Sounds like she has never really experienced good sushi before. First of all, she shouldn't have gone sushi place if she can not enjoy fish taste. Even if she didn't eat actual fish, some places use fish base soup for rice to give more flavor to it. It is natural that she has "taste of fish" in her mouth. Second of all, it is no over price! Everything is reasonably priced if you know what you are eating. Of course, it is a bit pricy compare to normal restauran, but hey, if you want real sushi it is worth it!! At last, I hope she won't try any ethnic restaurants EVER again because sounds like she can't handle any REAL STUFF!

    COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTING.

Unless you are rich and don't mind blowing your money on less than average sushi.

The sushi was priced almost twice as much compared to my past sushi experiences, and wasn't worth a single bite.

The place was separated - bar upstairs, nice dinner atmosphere downstairs. Upstairs was dank. Dark. Smokey. the sushi was average, if that.

I have never eaten sushi where I left with the actual taste of fish in my mouth. Sick.

Did I mention, the waitress was less than pleasant. That never helps. But the bartender could make a wicked martini! The martinis were awesome. $10-$12 a piece. But I cant say I've ever had a crappy martini in the city.

Overall... completely disappointing. Especially on a nite where its -17 wind chill outside combined with the hour drive to get there.

I have eaten at Mirai 5 times and have loved it each time. The Tuna Tuna Salmon is my favorite dish and I highly recommend the Crab Tini. The drink are a bit pricy at about $10 a piece, but they might just be worth it.

the food could be good if they were not so stingy with the fish in the maki rolls. They try to fill u up with rice. and even after showing the waiter that our shrimp tempura was only a small piece of plane shrimp (the size of my finger nail). he said that they say it's tempura.. it is overpriced and not worth it. and the desert was horrible too. If they are less stingy then it would be a great place..but not worth it for what you get for how much you pay.
